Auby intergenerational

Located in the center of Auby, the "Aldi" wasteland offers the opportunity to apply the principles established by our Greymatter research : Set the seniors as productive players of the cities. The project offers an inclusive living concept within a lush and intimate environment that has a strong capacity to evolve. Using a simple and repetitive structural principle, we allow residents to change the size of their apartments depending on their needs and lifestyles.

We increasingly consider the life cycle of buildings and building materials but rarely the space that it needs and importance of proximity between resources and site. ReTurku learns from several emerging new trends coming from the public and the private to shape an innovative hybrid neighbourhood that understands the necessity of up-cycling as being part of daily lives. We would seek collaboration with other actors, Ekotori (I think these are important) Rink-ecopoint, Encore, Martela or Sifonki. In the North we integrate the transport hub of the new terminal INFO an attractive plaza with parking in plinth and office buildings that block the noise from the port, to imagine residential areas inside in the future. Streets emphasise soft movements and a secondary traffic for delivery of goods from transit hub via electric pods.

Stormwater and water strategy is heart of the landscape feature. Our water management strategy is crucial for successful and sustainable long term development of the area. The risk of flooding is addressed through the raised green belt around the historical terminal area, as well as the elevated ground level for the new development and sustainable stormwater management solutions. They include open water channels, local hold-ing points as well as the main pond that can accumulate large amounts of rainwater, purify it and release excess into the sea through the floodgates. The low lay-ing archipelago park is exposed towards the rising seawater and creates the natural buffer between the sea and protected urbanised areas.

Engagement is a key element of our aging activism.
